Kids and adults can get crafty at this new DIY studio

Jen Kenyon has always gravitated toward DIY.
“From arts and crafts to building my own furniture and home décor, I really enjoy creating something from scratch rather than buying it from the store,” says Kenyon. “Crafting in particular has always been a great stress relief for me and it has really helped me channel my own creativity in a way that I wasn’t able to do in my professional career.”
With a background in public relations and media management within the motorcycle industry, she has enjoyed her work over the years. But she was looking for a creative outlet.
The Crafting Cactus in Murrieta – a DIY craft studio for private parties, workshops, networking events and corporate gatherings – officially opened in February 2018.
The studio offers a variety of crafts projects and supplies for both children and adults.
“Two of our most popular crafts for kids are Nail & String Art, dreamcatchers and painting projects,” Kenyon says. “For kids 9 and older, we offer wood-burning projects, terrariums and succulent planters, which are always a hit.”
And adults don’t miss out on the fun either, with advanced Nail & String Art patterns and dreamcatchers, as well as wood-burning, custom beer bottle openers and wooden signs. The studio also hosts seasonal workshops including holiday door wreaths, pumpkin succulent planters, Christmas tree ornaments and holiday gift-making.
“Crafting gives kids the opportunity to take something from a blank canvas and put 100 percent of their own creativity and imagination into something they can be proud of,” she says. “I believe that crafting can push kids to explore their capabilities in a low-risk environment, meaning that there is no right or wrong way to do art and that makes the process more enjoyable.”
