Although everyday should be Earth Day, April 22nd is the day set aside to officially celebrate it and show respect for our planet. You might wonder what you can do on Earth Day. Well, there are plenty of ways that you can help show respect for the earth and get in touch with nature so do whatever feels right for you.
For starters, you can gather together some friends and neighbors to clean up the neighborhood or local park. Pick up litter, wash off graffiti, or pull up some weeds. Gather together old newspapers, bottles, and cans, then separate them and take them to the nearest recycling center. Think about all the kids that play in the area and do your part to keep it as nice as possible for them.
Participate in Earth Day by donating your time, labor or services- use whatever resources you have available to you. Everyone can help out in one way or another. Think about planting a tree, a garden, or even buying a couple of plants for the inside of your home. Take the opportunity to beautify and organize your own little corner of the world and do some routine maintenance to make the outdoors area around your home reflect the look of upkeep you strive to maintain indoors.
Whether you are outdoors working to cleanup the neighborhood, hiking, or enjoying a picnic, make a conscious effort to get in touch with nature. After all, it is Earth Day. Our planet sustains our lives in a multitude of ways so it’s only fair that we give a little back when we take so much. Earth Day may be a good time to take a child on a nature walk or go rock collecting. Children are the future, so instilling a love of nature and teaching them the importance of respecting our planet is crucial for its survival.
You may also want to check the local calendar of events in your area to see what activities may be planned. However, you decide to celebrate Earth Day, do it with a spirit of reverence for our planet and all the life it sustains. and teach your children to do the same. We only have one world in which to live and by caring for our earth, we also care for ourselves. Do your part in preserving our planet and keeping it clean.
You may think that you can’t make a difference and that there’s really nothing you can do to counteract the negative effects of pollution caused by industry, transportation, hazardous waste, etc. And you may be right to an extent as we can’t reverse damaging effects overnight. We can’t undo what has been done in one day– major changes have to occur. These changes must be for the better and they must be ongoing but just know that you can make a difference. Change starts with an idea and it can start with one person, so don’t do nothing just because you can’t do everything. Celebrate Earth Day every day and make a positive difference.
